With the passing of Glenn Frey I thought I would dedicate my first "Best of" post to him. Glenn wrote or co-wrote many great and/or popular songs. I've chosen my favorite songs from The Eagles and his solo work.
Many of the sons I've chosen are from The Eagles Greatest Hits album. My father owned this album so I listened to it a lot when I was a kid and many of the songs have stuck in my head.
"Desperado" - Some people think it is a cliche for a guy my age to like this song but I love playing this on the piano or singing along to it on the radio.
"Hotel California" - another "cliche" like but this is such a great song. During my "Weird Al" phase in high school I wrote parody lyrics to this called "Hotel Oklahoma" that I may share with you at some point.
"The Last Resort" - I really didn't discover this song until the Eagles Hell Freezes Over concert but it quickly became a favorite.
"The One You Love" - My favorite of his solo work.
"The Girl From Yesterday" - This was introduced during the previously mentioned Hell Freezes Over concert. It's a wonderful little country song that I enjoy singing.
"Lyin' Eyes" - My favorite Eagles song to sing in the shower or pretty much anywhere.
My other favorites are "Best of My Love", "I Can't Tell You Why", "Take It Easy", and "Tequila Sunrise."

The Soundtrack of My Life
I've been thinking about starting a blog about my favorite music for a while now but today is the day to start because of the loss of Glenn Frey. The Eagles is one of my favorite bands and some of Glenn's solo music is among my favorite songs.
I think we are all influenced very early by music that we hear in our houses, friends' houses and on the radio. We listen to our parents' and friends albums (The Eagles Greatest Hits), CDs, tapes and, yes, even 8-tracks (for us older people) and we remember discovering our first favorite songs (Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks.)
We remember the first time we spent our own money to buy a song (Sky High by Jigsaw) or album (The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) or went to our first concert (J. Geils Band at the Atlanta Civic Center in 1982.)
We remember songs that bring up a special movie or TV memory (Our Town by Iris Dement, played at the end of the last episode of Northern Exposure) or that we were listening to when we first fell in love with someone (Can't Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon) or broke up with them.
We remember songs that remind us of departed family and friends (The Univerity of Michigan Fight Song) or someone that we have lost touch with (Back in Black by AC/DC).
We remember songs that we cannot help but sing along with every time we hear them (Sweet Child of Mine by Guns n' Roses.)
We remember being introduced to new musical genres (Rapper's Delight) or old ones that we discovered along the way (London Calling by the The Clash.)
We remember our favorite songs of faith (Amazing Grace.)
We remember our favorite musical (Les Miserables) even if we don't admit we like musicals.
For people that play an instrument we remember our favorite songs to play (Keep On Loving You by REO Speedwagon on piano, Bach's Brandenberg Concerto #3 on violin.).
I hope everyone that is able associates music with moments in their life. I'm writing this blog for me to document my music experiences. If you like what you read please share your memories, favorite songs, websites or other music blogs. If you don't like what you read please share rational thoughts or criticism but keep in mind that it is very hard to like all types of music (death metal.)
RIP Glenn Frey.
