The songs covered a lot of artists and eras but there were many sappy love songs.
Well, in 2021, I made new spreadsheets. In the three years since the previous ratings I've been exposed to new music and rediscovered some other music that I hadn't really considered the last time.
The Ken Burns Country Music PBS series became a major influence in my listening by expanding my tastes to include John Prine, Townes Van Zant and Kris Kristofferson.
I've also learned to like some newer music and not keep myself tied to the old tunes I've loved forever. I have held on to a lot of the old tunes.
Starting New Year's Day I will be posting the songs, one at a time, in alphabetical order. My hope is to, hopefully, introduce some new music into your lives or different genres that you may not consider when you decide to listen to music.
I am excluding my favorite songs from musicals as they are a whole different thing to me. They are part of the story of the whole musical even though they may stand out. I will be including songs from albums that may have been turned into musicals later on but were originally released as popular music.
I know that there are people that don't take the time to listen to music but I don't understand living without music in your life or all around you.
I started off the process with over 5000 songs that I could at least hum the tune to or sing the chorus. My grand ambition is to post about the 241 songs that made the final cut. We'll call it my New Year's resolution so we will see how I do.
